โ“ SnapVault FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about securing your private content.

๐Ÿ” Security & Access

SECURITY I forgot my app PIN. How do I reset it?

If you have Face ID or Touch ID enabled, use biometric authentication to unlock the app and then change your PIN from Settings โ†’ Set / Change PIN.

If biometric unlock is also unavailable, sign out of your Google account and sign back in. This will reset your PIN and prompt you to create a new one. Your encrypted photos, videos, and other vault data will not be deleted โ€” they sync back from the cloud once you sign in.

SECURITY I forgot my album PIN. How can I access my locked album?

Album PINs are separate from your main app PIN. There is no automated recovery for album PINs โ€” you need to remember the PIN you set for each album.

If you're already inside the app (past the main lock screen), you can remove or change an album's PIN from the album's settings menu. If you're completely locked out, the only option is to delete the album and re-create it, which will remove the media inside.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Consider storing your album PINs in the built-in Password Manager for safekeeping.
SECURITY How does SnapVault encryption work?

SnapVault uses AES-256-GCM end-to-end encryption โ€” the same standard used by banks and governments. Here's how it works:

Every photo, video, document, text note, password, and voice memo is encrypted on your device before it's stored locally or uploaded to the cloud. Your encryption key is generated and stored securely in the iOS Keychain.

Even if someone gains access to the cloud storage, they cannot read your files without your encryption key. We cannot access your content โ€” only you can.

๐Ÿ”‘ Your PIN is hashed with SHA-256 and never stored in plain text. Encryption keys never leave your device unprotected.
SECURITY What are Break-In Alerts and how do they work?

Break-In Alerts is a security feature that detects unauthorized access attempts. When someone enters the wrong PIN 3 times, SnapVault silently captures a photo using the front camera and logs the attempt with the date, time, and device information.

You can review all break-in attempts in Settings โ†’ View Break-In Attempts, which shows a timeline with intruder photos and timestamps.

The toggle to enable Break-In Alerts is free for all users. Viewing the captured break-in photos requires a Premium subscription.

๐ŸŽญ Decoy / Cover Screen

PREMIUM What is the Decoy Screen and how do I use it?

The Decoy Screen disguises SnapVault as an innocent-looking Notes app when opened. Anyone glancing at your phone will see a simple notes interface instead of a vault.

To reveal your real vault, tap anywhere on the cover screen 5 times, then enter your secret Cover PIN. This PIN is separate from your main app PIN for extra security.

You can enable it in Settings โ†’ Cover / Decoy Screen, set your Cover PIN, and even preview how it looks. The decoy notes you create on the cover screen are completely separate from your real vault notes.

๐ŸŽญ This is a Premium feature. Upgrade to use the Decoy Screen.
PREMIUM Can someone tell the Decoy Screen is fake?

The Decoy Screen is designed to look and function like a real notes app. You can create, edit, and delete notes on it โ€” making it fully convincing. There are no visible indicators that it's a cover for a vault.

The 5-tap reveal gesture is invisible to anyone who doesn't know about it. Cover screen notes are stored separately and are never mixed with your real vault data.

โ˜๏ธ Cloud Storage & Data

CLOUD How much cloud storage do I get?

SnapVault offers two tiers of cloud storage:

Free: Up to 50 files (photos, videos, and documents combined) synced to the cloud.

Premium: Up to 10,000 files synced to the cloud โ€” more than enough for most users.

You can check your current usage in Settings โ†’ Storage, which shows a visual progress bar with your file count. You'll receive a gentle reminder when you reach 70% capacity.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Local storage is always unlimited โ€” the limit only applies to cloud-synced files. Your photos and videos are always safe on your device regardless of your plan.
CLOUD I deleted the app. Is my data gone forever?

It depends on whether you had Cloud Sync enabled:

Cloud Sync ON: Your encrypted files are still backed up in the cloud. Reinstall SnapVault, sign in with the same Google account, and your vault will sync back automatically. You'll need to set a new PIN.

Cloud Sync OFF: All data stored only on your device is permanently lost when the app is deleted. There is no way to recover locally-stored data after uninstalling.

โš ๏ธ We strongly recommend keeping Cloud Sync enabled to protect against accidental data loss.
CLOUD What happens to my data if I delete my account?

Deleting your account permanently removes all your data from our servers within 30 days. This includes all photos, videos, documents, notes, passwords, and voice memos stored in the cloud.

This action cannot be undone. Please make sure you've exported or backed up anything you need before deleting your account. You can delete your account from Settings โ†’ Delete Account.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Features

MEDIA Will importing photos delete them from my Camera Roll?

Not by default. SnapVault has an optional "Delete Originals After Import" setting that is turned off by default.

When enabled, SnapVault will ask for your confirmation after each import to delete the original photos from your Camera Roll. You can toggle this at any time in Settings โ†’ Delete Originals After Import.

MEDIA What types of content can I store in SnapVault?

SnapVault is a complete privacy vault. You can securely store:

๐Ÿ“ท Photos & Videos โ€” Import from your library or capture directly with the in-app camera (photos never touch your Camera Roll).

๐Ÿ“ Text Notes โ€” Encrypted notes for sensitive information.

๐Ÿ”‘ Passwords โ€” Store website credentials with title, username, password, URL, and notes โ€” all individually encrypted.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Voice Memos โ€” Record and encrypt audio recordings.

๐Ÿ“„ Documents โ€” Upload and store important documents securely.

Everything is encrypted with AES-256-GCM at rest and organized across dedicated tabs in the app.

MEDIA How do albums work? Can I protect individual albums?

You can create unlimited albums to organize your photos and videos. Each album can optionally have its own 4-digit PIN lock โ€” separate from your main app PIN โ€” for an extra layer of privacy.

Albums also support a Decoy PIN: you can set a fake PIN that, when entered, shows an empty decoy album instead of the real content. Only the real PIN reveals your actual photos.

A default "Camera Roll" album is created automatically for quick captures from the in-app camera.
